Ruane Says Down Should Exploit Visual Arts Exposure

SINN Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the news that the mini TV series Game of Thrones is again being part filmed in South Down.

Ms Ruane said: “Following the success of the short film “The Shore” I am delighted that South Down is being used as a setting for part of the mini series Game of Thrones.

“This will help expose South Down to millions of people worldwide, so it is important that we capitalise on these opportunities and market the area appropriately.

“Cong in County Mayo developed a strong tourist product by advertising the fact ‘The Quiet Man’ was filmed there and there is no reason why County Down cannot promote itself through a similar connection with the visual arts.

“I also hope that the films will stimulate tourists to come to Co Down which has some of most beautiful natural scenery on the island as well as a steep cultural history that has yet to reach its potential in terms of the tourist trial.”
