Rogers Calls For Action On Castlewellan Road, Newcastle

Mr Rogers said: “Over the Easter break, I learnt of at least two separate road traffic collisions on the Castlewellan Road between Tesco’s and Mourne Fresh Foods.

“The volume of traffic on this road has increased dramatically in recent years. I have made written representations to DRD Roads Service asking for a full assessment of traffic at this location. I have asked for figures in respect of average traffic volume as well as statistics in relation to collisions.

“This was already a busy roadway and with the additional 160 houses in the Apex development further out the Castlewellan Road, the problem is only set to deteriorate further.

“We are about to enter the tourist season so it is imperative that the Roads Service commence their investigations so that any proposed improvements can take place before someone is seriously injured at this location,” added Mr Rogers.
