RGU Notes

th was the first opportunity for the RGU’s top young handballers to get a taste of the Ulster Championship. First up was Eoin McMullan in the U-12 singles who faced an opponent from Armagh. Although this was a step too far for Eoin, he is still only nine and the experience gained will be invaluable to him in the future. It is worth noting that he will still be able to play in this category for a further two years. In the U-12 doubles Ryan Steritt and Ronan Murphy faced Cavan, and they got off to a great start winning the first game. Cavan levelled it to one each and the crowd settled down to watch the tiebreaker. Cavan raced into an early lead but the RGU lads showed great character and fought their way back into it. In a final push Cavan got a few aces and went on to win 15-9. This was a great day out for the boys and their families, and hopefully in the near future we will see the RGU capture an Ulster Title. The weather is taking its toll on the pitches at the moment and it has been decided that both pitches will remain closed until 13th March, except for the street league on Saturday evenings. All training for next weekend will therefore take place at St Dillon’s Avenue. The lights will still be turned on on Tuesday evening from 7 PM to 8 PM for the U-16s and U-12s who will train outside the juvenile pitch on the bank. The seniors got their season off to a start on Sunday morning with a brisk training session. They will be getting together again on Monday evening. Under-14 football training continues on Saturday’s at 3.00pm with an additional indoor fitness session on Thursday evenings at 7.00 PM in the Clubrooms. The street league will also continue to take place on Saturday evenings at 6.00pm under the floodlights Set dancing continues on Tuesday nights at 7.30pm.
