Rampant Hoops March on Drumgath 1-7 xa0RGU xa05-15 “It was a performance to behold at Drumgath on Friday evening as the Hoops took another step towards a place in the play offs for Division 1 writes Michael Starkey. “In a game which the RGU dominated from start to finish, Drumgath offered little or no resistance at any time. Jarlath Brannigan stole the show in the first half scoring a goal and 4 points along the way. Goals from Paul McAlinden, and Eoin Boyle, plus further points from Sean Bell and Eoin Boyle left the Hoops in a commanding half-time lead of 3-6 to 0-4. “In the second half Sean Bell took over from Jarlath Brannigan, scoring a goal and 5 points to add to the point he scored in the first half. It was a spell of football which saw the Hoops scoring for fun from all over the place. It was scores galore as Isaac McAuley also added 1-1, Peter Telford popped over a couple, Paul McAlinden stuck one over, and Kevin Gracey also deservedly got in on the act. “Whilst the scores kept adding up, it would be a travesty not to mention the hard graft from the defence. Damien Turley had probably his best performance of the season, scooping up ball after ball and recycling it with confidence and precision. “John Polly also stood out, getting involved from the start, and playing his part in snuffing out almost every attack. Playing as a tight unit throughout, the Hoops took their lead from Peter Telford in the mid-field. He consistently out-jumped his opponents and got great support from Garrett Trainor who did not look like someone who has just came back from a long lay off. “One of the highlights of the night was the introduction of Tyrone Wynn, who was making his senior debut. When the final whistle sounded the score board read Drumgath 1-7 Hoops 5-15 – a good platform to move on from when we meet Loughinisland in a crunch encounter next time. “Manager Kyran Smyth was so pleased with the team’s performance that he was still doing a Cheshire Cat impersonation at the U-10 blitz on Saturday morning. (In doing so, he broke a personal record by smiling two days in a row!”, added Michael Starkey.]]>
