Portaferry RNLI Aids Eight Yachters in Strangford Lough

Portaferry RNLI was launched this evening (Wednesday 26 June) to the aid of eight people on board a nine metre sailing yacht that had run aground.

Weather at the time was good, partly cloudy, with good visibility and light winds.

In a quick callout response, the volunteer lifeboat crew launched atxa09.05pmxa0and were alongside the yacht atxa09.15pmxa0just off Gibb’s Island on the Quoile River, Strangford Lough.

The yacht had been refloated by the time the volunteer RNLI crew arrived at the scene.

The lifeboat crew then escorted the eight people on board the yacht back to Killyleagh Yacht Club in Strangford Lough, and returned once the yacht had been safely moored at the Yacht Club pontoons.
