29 scooters and vehicles were recently seized by the police in a safety clampdown
Police are on the prowl for people on scooters, scramblers, and other vehicles who are breaking the law and driving dangerously.
Police in Newry Mourne and Down conducted a operation over the weekend targeting illegal scooters and other vehicles being driven dangerously and illegally.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Paul Moore said: “In total, twenty five E-scooters, three E-scramblers, one petrol scrambler were seized on Saturday and Sunday.
“While these items were seized as part of a proactive operation. I would like to remind anyone in possession of such vehicles that we intend to keep targeting their use.
“If we detect them being driven on roads, footpaths or any other public spaces, we will seize them.
“I would ask parents or anyone considering buying one of these vehicles as a present or as a Christmas gift, to please reconsider before making a purchase they might end up regretting.
“Not only do you run the risk of having it seized by police but from a safety point of view, they can be really dangerous and there is a risk to the safety of both rider and the public.
“There have been a number of recent incidents were riders and others have been injured as the result of the use of these vehicles and that is what we are seeking to avoid.
“Please help us keep our public spaces safe.
“I encourage anyone with concerns about the inappropriate use of e-scooters or other vehicles to contact police so our officers can respond accordingly.
