Police Scoop Castlewellan Cannabis Worth £150,000

Four people have been arrested and cannabis plants believed to be worth more than £150,000 pounds in street value has been seized by police in Castlewellan.

DCI Ian Wilson said: “Officers carrying out proactive drugs searches at properties in the Circular Road and Corrywood Park areas yesterday uncovered two substantial cannabis factories.

“Three individuals, two 33-year old men and a 22 year old woman were detained in the Circular Road area and a 30-year old man was arrested in Corrywood Park.

“All four remain in custody this morning assisting with enquiries.

“Operations such as this one demonstrate our ongoing commitment to working with communities to tackle drugs, disrupt criminals and keep communities safe.

“We are extremely pleased to have shut down these cannabis factories and prevent the drugs they produce from circulating on our streets. Drugs destroy lives and I would continue to encourage anyone with any information about the sale and supply of illegal drugs in the community to contact police on 101 or ring the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Three men, aged 30, 33 and 34 have been collectively charged with a more 31 than offences in connection with the discovery of two cannabis factories in Castlewellan on Tuesday 18th November.

The charges include the cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession with intent to supply cannabis. All three are due to appear at Downpatrick Magistrates court this morning, Thursday 20 November.

As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

A 22-year old woman, who was also arrested on Tuesday following the discovery of the cannabis factories at Circular Road and Corrywood Park, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
