Two Men Break Into Newcastle Home And Demand Money Say Police

Detectives investigating a report of aggravated burglary in Newcastle in the early hours of today, Sunday 14th January have made an arrest.

A police spokesperson said: “The 33-year-old man, arrested in connection with the investigation, remains in custody at this time.

“It was reported at around 1.45am, a woman was in the living room of her Burrendale Park Close home with her teenage daughter and sleeping baby granddaughter when two men came in through the front door.  


“One of the men, wearing a balaclava and carrying what appeared to be a weapon covered by a white bag or pillowcase, put the muzzle to her chest while demanding money.

“The woman, the injured party, claims she was then grabbed by the hair and thrown onto the sofa while threats were made to shoot.

“No money was reported stolen and the men left the address in the direction of the Dundrum Road”

Detective Inspector Winters said: “Anyone with information is asked to call us on 101, quoting reference number 109 14/01/24.”

Detectives investigating a report of an aggravated burglary in the Burrendale Park Close area of Newcastle on Sunday morning, 14th January have charged a man to court.

The 33-year-old has been charged with aggravated burglary with intent to steal, two counts of common assault, possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, threats to damage property and threats to kill.

He is due to appear before Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning, 15th January.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
