Phoenix Natural Gas backs women and girls through Women’sTec

Phoenix Natural Gas is the latest local business to help fuel opportunities for women and girls by coming on board as a #NotJustForBoys champion with Northern Ireland’s largest quality provider of training for women in non-traditional skills, WOMEN’STEC.

Designed to help challenge misconceptions of careers in traditionally male dominated industries, the #NotJustForBoys programme aims to increase awareness among young females of the wide array of career opportunities available to them in sectors where women are often under-represented, such as construction.

The #NotJustForBoys programme is being delivered by WOMEN’STEC in partnership with industry, public sector and schools and provides support for young females wanting to access work experience, work placements and apprenticeships, connecting them to a wide range of career pathways and meeting the employment needs of the wider construction industry.

Fuelling Opportunity with Women’s Tec: Denver Wasson, Director of Engineering, Phoenix Natural Gas alongside  Lisa McCaul, Social Enterprise Manager, WOMEN’STEC announce Phoenix Natural Gas as the latest #NotJustForBoys Champion.

Lynn Carvill, Chief Executive of WOMEN’STEC said: “WOMEN’STEC aims to improve life opportunities for females and provide training in non-traditional skills such as plumbing, electrics and joinery, alongside personal development and employability support to help women and girls build their confidence and show them that there is nothing they can’t do.

“Through the #NotJustForBoys programme, we are working to ensure that young females are encouraged to consider non-traditional careers and are informed about the range of careers and job opportunities that are available to them.

“We are delighted to welcome Phoenix Natural Gas as a #notjustforboys Champion and look forward to working closely with them to encourage more females to consider a career in the gas industry.”

With progress being made on the delivery of renewable gas solutions through the natural gas network, Denver Wasson, Director of Engineering at Phoenix Natural Gas explains that it’s a really exciting time to consider a career in the natural gas industry.

Denver Wasson said: “Young people taking on a career in construction and engineering will be at the forefront of delivering sustainable practices and new decarbonisation solutions and we’re really pleased to play a part in helping raise awareness of the wealth of opportunities that exist for young females when it comes to a career in the engineering and construction sectors.”
