Public Meeting on Community Safety coming to Ballynahinch

Members of the public will soon have an opportunity to share their concerns about local community safety issues.

There will be a public meeting on Thursday 6 October in Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch.

Newry Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are organising the meeting.

It provides members of the local community with an opportunity to share their concerns.

They will hear directly from the PCSP and the PSNI about their ongoing commitment to resolving local community safety issues.

Newry Mourne and Down PCSP Chairperson, Councillor Kathryn Owen, encouraged people to attend the event.

She said: “This is your opportunity to talk directly with senior police personnel and officers from local Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

“And Newry Mourne and Down PCSP is increasing confidence in policing.

“And the open engagement opportunities which the PCSP provides through this public meeting are crucial to this.

“Therefore, I would encourage you to come along, ask questions. Have your voice heard.

“All members of the public are welcome to attend and there is no booking required.”

The meeting, which will start at 7pm, is open for all to attend and light refreshments will be available.

Taking part will be Superintendent Norman Haslett from PSNI Newry Mourne and Down.

He said: “We are delighted to provide this opportunity for members of the public to speak with our local policing teams on issues which are affecting them in their area.

“We will be available to answer questions and address any concerns you may have about policing across our district.”

Newry Mourne and Down Policing and Community Safety Partnership is working to help make communities safer.

It aims to ensure the voices of local people are heard on policing and community safety issues

The PCSP aims to empower communities to work in partnership to develop solutions that will help tackle crime, the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

The partnership is made up of 10 Councillors and 9 Independent members. Also included are representatives from the PSNI, NIFRS, Housing Executive, Youth Justice Agency, the Probation Board Education Authority and the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.
