She said: “I am urging locals to kick off those winter blues and rally the family together for Cancer Fund for Children’s Winter Woolly Walk. The event is a fantastic family day out and a great way to raise funds for the charity which provides practical, emotional and financial support to local families affected by cancer.

“This year, the charity is hoping to raise £25k by holding the walk at seven special locations across the province. She added: “We are hoping that 500 families will take part in Winter Woolly Walk events across the province including the one at Tollymore to help us reach our target.

“£25k could provide a free therapeutic short break at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle for 72 families or 625 one-to-one support sessions with a Cancer Fund for Children Specialist on the hospital wards of the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.”

Cancer Fund for Children fundraiser, Naomi Braithwaite added: “I will be taking my family along to the event because it is just a great day out for us parents and the kids. The first 500 people to register will receive a free pair of Winter Woolly Walk gloves. Each walk will take place on February 28 next year and ranges from three to five miles. There will be plenty of warm refreshments to heat cold hands and fun family activities on the day.”

Locations for the Winter Woolie Walk include Tollymore Forest Park in Newcastle, The Lagan Towpath in Belfast, Lurgan Park, Antrim Castle Gardens, St Columb’s Park in Derry/L’Derry, Castle Coole in Fermanagh and Drum Manor Forest Park in Cookstown.

Registration is from 10am with walks starting at 10.30am except Tollymore which will start at 10am.
