After 40+ years of providing outstanding care, a nursing and technology pioneer retires
After an exceptional 43-year career in Health and Social Care, South Eastern Trust Technology Enabled Care Manager, Robert Moore RN, has retired, marking the end of a career defined by compassion, innovation and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of patients and Service Users.
Robert began his Nursing career at the Ulster Hospital in 1983 completing his General Nurse training in 1986.
Driven by a passion for providing holistic care, he later qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 1991 in London.
Over the following decades, he held a wide range of clinical and leadership roles in both the private and voluntary sectors.
In his most recent role as Technology Enabled Care Manager, Robert became a leading advocate for the use of technology to support independent living.
He played a pivotal role in promoting telehealth and telecare services, helping people manage their condition better or remain safely in their own homes while ensuring that compassionate, person-centred care remained at the heart of every innovation.
Reflecting on his career, Robert said: “I have been incredibly fortunate to have spent my career working with people and trying to improve their health and wellbeing.
“Though my role became increasingly technology-focused, care has always remained at its heart.
“The experience I gained as a Nurse, working with patients both on hospital wards and in the community, has been just as valuable when using technology as it was before these advances became part of everyday healthcare.
“Technology is not a ‘fix-it-all’ solution. It can be integrated into people’s lives to support care delivery, but it can never replace the empathy and human connection that care staff provide.
“At the heart of Health and Social Care, people will always need people.”
Robert also reflected on the privilege of leading Community Specialist Nursing Teams during his career.
He added: “It has been an honour to care for people at some of the most important and challenging moments in their lives.
“I have also had the privilege of managing outstanding Community Specialist Nursing Teams, whose professionalism, dedication and compassion have continually inspired me.”
Wishing Robert a long and happy retirement, South Eastern Trust, Assistant Director of Quality and Innovation, Dr Ruth Gray said: “Robert has made an exceptional contribution to Health and Social Care throughout his 43 years of service.
“From the very beginning of his career as a Nurse, he has demonstrated unwavering compassion, professionalism and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of the people we care for.
“Robert’s ability to combine his extensive Nursing experience and creativity with a passion for innovation has helped shape our Technology Enabled Care service, ensuring technology enhances rather than replaces the human touch at the heart of healthcare.
His leadership, expertise and vision have made a lasting difference to patients, Service Users and colleagues.
“I would like to thank Robert for his exceptional service and wish him all the very best as he embarks on a new chapter.”
