Ballyhornan woman Rosie Maguire to represent her mum-in-law Mairead Corrigan-Maguire on the March to Gaza in early June
- Global march to Gaza from El-Arish to Rafah.
An apolitical and peaceful march supported by numerous NGOs, organised by citizens from around the world, is bringing 30 delegations from different countries to Gaza.
And Ballyhornan woman Rosie Maquire will be lending her support to this historic event by representing her mum-in-law, Mairead Corrigan-Maguire from Kilclief, who is a Nobel Peace Prize winner and a peace activist and is endorsing the event.
This movement hopes to negotiate the opening of a humanitarian corridor into Gaza to provide relief for the stricken Gazans.

This march is a coming together of different international initiatives which include the Land Convoy to Break the Gaza Blockage (Sumund), the Global March To Gaza and Freedom Flotilla Coalition.
The event starts from Cairo in early June and applications to join the march can still be made at: marchtogaza.net

The peace participants from around the will travel by vehicle to the official start of the march in El-Arich. The march ends in Egypt’s Rafah borders with Gaza after 3 days. The total duration of the stay is between 8 to 10 days.
Rosie added: “The people of Gaza are the victims of a genocide committed by the Israeli army in defiance of international law”, said Rosie.
‘My family has Gazan friends and they are literally starving and dying. For many years we have sponsored babies in Gaza that are disabled or ill, and one baby is a triplet. My family has fostered links with Gazan families over the years and we know them socially and they are now suffering terribly.
“There are 200 trucks queued up on the border with Eqypt due to an Israeli blockade loaded with medical supplies and the food is rotting in the 40 degree + heat. And to make matters worse there is a serious shortage of fresh water and babies are dehydrating.
“Massive and incessant bombardments, evacuation orders and forced displacement of civilians, water, food and power cutrs, epidemics, amnd spread of disease, children suffering from acute malnutrition, massacres of entire families, all condemn the Gazans to extermination and constitute acts covered by the Genocide Convention (CPPCG).

“They are faced with governments’ inaction and failure in their responsibility, and it is our duty as citizens to act. Our aim for this march is delivering humanitarian aid while maintaining a strong civilian presence in order to create international, moral and media pressure.
“We need to galvanise the world to take action and stop this madness.”
The global March to Gaza group is inviting journalists to join the march and cover the event as broad media coverage is needed to bring the initiative to light and help to put an end to this conflict and the huge human suffering and death toll that has been on-going.
