NITB and Sinn Féin to Meet on South Down Tourism

Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has stated that NI Tourism Board must do more to ensure South Down is packaged and promoted positively in order to maximise its tourist potential.

Speaking ahead of a meeting with the NITB Destination Manager  Stormont Mr Hazzard said:  “I along with my colleague Caitriona Ruane will be meeting with the Aine Kearney and Stephen Bill of NITB on the 22 October to discuss tourism across South Down.

“South Down has so much to offer in terms of tourist product from the Mournes Mountains and Coastal route, to the heritage of St Patrick and it is crucial we market these jewels as a package.

“We recently had several films and mini series coming into South Down so we should be riding on their back to attract tourism.

“I hope that by holding this meeting we can build a tourism strategy that will meet the needs of the region and bring economic benefits to the entire region.”

Ms Ruane added: “With the news that the Narrow Water Bridge has been given planning permission, this key piece of infrastructure can open up the entire South Down and Louth region and the NITB should also get behind the campaign to have it built.”
