Commenting on the current political situation at Stormont and this Friday’s Public Sector Strike, the NIIRTA boss said today: “So far this week has brought nothing but bad news with a serious political situation at Stormont which threatens the Assembly and an ill-timed public sector strike which will cause significant disruption to our economy.”

“We would urge all parties to work through this crisis and ensure that the Stormont House Agreement is fully implemented. The price of failure will be Direct Rule and the huge opportunity of Corporation Tax devolution lost for a generation.”

“Friday’s ill-timed and misjudged public sector strike is the very last thing Northern Ireland needs at this time.”

“With public transport shut-down on Friday our members will face severe difficulty-how will their staff and customers get to their shops and town centres?

“Grinding Northern Ireland’s economy to a halt just as we come out of recession and begin to grow shows that our Trade Unions are out of touch and out of ideas”

“I would call upon the Unions to call off this ridiculous strike and properly engage with Government and Business Community”.
