NICHS Director of Public Health, Fidelma Carter said: “This investment of £3.5m will reduce deaths from heart attacks and is very welcome news”

“The investment will continue the roll out of a new service called primary percutaneous coronary intervention – or PCI for short. The £3.5m funding announced today by Finance Minister, Sammy Wilson will see the creation of a catheterisation laboratory at the RVH.

“We welcome that the Health Minister Edwin Poots has pushed forward with this development and sought and secured funding. This means that patients having a heart attack will be taken to a catheterisation laboratory — cath lab — centre that is capable of undertaking the procedure 24/7.”

The funding was announced Monday 1 July by Sammy Wilson in the June Monitoring Round. http://www.dfpni.gov.uk/2013-14-june-monitoring-round.pdf
