Men's Forum Event A Huge Success
www.mensheds.com.au) – a really interesting concept that can help connect men with their communities and mainstream society and at the same time act as a catalyst in stimulating their community’s economic activities. Quite a number of men in the audience were very keen to see this established in the Down District area.
Men were then given the opportunity to take part in an interactive quiz to highlight to the Forum what they want to see happening in the area. The quiz results showed men were keen to see courses run for anger management, computers, unemployment & financial difficulties, physical activities, numeracy & literacy classes, emotional wellbeing classes, smoking cessation and arts & crafts.
David Tumilty, Chair of Down District Men’s Forum said, “It is hard to engage men in activities like this, but the launch of the men’s forum proved successful with a huge number of local men supporting the event. Many men, ranging from age 18 to 65+, have highlighted what type of activities they want to see happening, where, when and how often.
“We now have the required information to build on some of our previous work and take the next steps to provide activities that we hope will engage more and more men. I would like to thank all those men who attended and I would encourage any man aged 18+ to get behind the work that we do for their own benefit”.
The Men’s Forum is meeting later this month to plan activities based on what the men have requested. This will be advertised throughout the local area and in the local media.]]>
Killyleagh Library Backed By Local Action Group
Feelings were xa0running strong at the meeting as one person after another endorsed xa0the work of the action committee. Clive Scoular, chairman, explained that while a meeting with Irene Knox, Libraries NI Chief Executive was pending, that it was necessary to get the message across that Killyleagh library was a key, integral part of the community.
He said, “We are very heartened by the response from all our local schoolchildren. They have each written a letter to Mrs Knox telling why they do not want their library to close down. There are 387 letters altogether. And we are now using the social media to engage in our campaign through Facebook and Twitter, and we will have our video up in YouTube very soon.
