Ruane On Loughinisland Report Delay
Ms Ruane, who over the past six years has worked closely with the families and their legal representatives since they commenced their process with the Police Ombudsman said,xa0“In the search for the truth about the deaths of their loved ones in the 1994 Height’s Bar massacre, the Loughinisland families have conducted themselves with great dignity and they are determined to get justice.
“I have spoken with survivors of the atrocity and family members of the bereaved to get their views on this most recent and frustrating delay and I respect their continuing patience at what has been a very difficult process.
“The families’ position has always been that they would provide the office of the Police Ombudsman the space and time that is required to conduct a full, proper and independent investigation into their complaint.xa0 They will reserve commenting on the conclusions of the Report until they have the opportunity to study its finding but are of the opinion that the Ombudsman’s investigation will be of great public importance as it will exam the ability of the RUC to conduct mass murder investigations.
“It will also hopefully shed light onto the extent of RUC collusion with loyalist murder gangs and as such they are prepared to accede to the Ombudsman’s request for further time to finally conclude his Report.
“Sinn Féin fully respects the families’ position and we look forward to the publication of the Ombudsman’s findings which I hope are made available as soon as possible.”]]>
McGrath Condemns Cuts At Knockevin Special School
“It literally is a service that can unlock the world for those that receive it. For our Health Minister to cut this service indicates that all is up for grabs and nothing is safe in our health service anymore. The Health Department mandarins have the opportiunity xa0to ‘cherry-pick’ the services they are cutting. For this Music Therapy service to be selected is incredible and shameful.
Good Relations Committee Chairman Speaks Out
Dear Sir,
In the pit of the recession, when our A&E unit is under threat, the four major parties in Down District are fighting over flags and imperilling the cross-community nature of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in the run up to a local election on 5th May. This is a disgrace.
Gribben Meets DRD Minister Over Leitrim Roads
[/caption]
Sinn Féin’s candidate for Dromore xa0Paul Gribben, met recently with the North’s Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, in a bid to get improvements carried out to the rural road network around Leitrim and Finnis.
Mr Gribben explained: “The Leitrim area was badly affected by the prolonged spell of very cold weather that blanketed the area in snow for weeks last December.
“Many rural roads have suffered damaged as a result with large pot holes pock mocking surfaces and placing motorists at considerable risk.
“When I met Minister Murphy, I brought to his attention a number of examples that illustrate the deterioration of our local roads network. Rural communities face many challenges and it is important people are able to travel safety.
“I will also continue to lobby Roads Service for the installation of a footpath on the Backaderry Road, from the shop to the GAA ground. This route is used by many people travelling to matches and training and young people are being placed at considerable risk when out walking.

Shamrock Steamer.’
In conjunction with Down Community Transport, the railway will be offering a Park’n’Ride service from the Down Business Park on the Belfast Road directly into the heart of the carnival between 10am and 5pm.
Downpatrick Railway Chairman Michael Collins said that the St. Patrick’s Dayxa0boarding at the Inch Abbey terminus is a sure way of beating the traffic and letting you steam into the town for the festival celebrations. “We know that many people end up parking as far out as the former Abbey Lodge Hotel site and the Down Business Park on the Belfast Road and end up having to walk a fair distance into the town centre.
