“This is a very attractive and well kept area but there are serious difficulties around traffic movement, general access and congestion. This is a big problem throughout Northern Ireland as so many housing estates such as this were built when the number of vehicles was much lower and access was no problem.
“Nowadays , however, many families have two or more vehicles. This kind of problem comes up regularly at thexa0 Northern Ireland Housing Council. In this case the problem could cause serious problems, for example, if emergency services had to get immediate access they might not be able to get close enough to be effective.
“I shall be writing to the N.I.Housing Executive to ask them is there anything that they can do to improve this access problem without disturbing the amenity of the area,” said Councillor O’Neill.]]>O'Neill Calls For De Courcy Way Traffic/Parking Review

IN a Letter to the Editor, Sinn Féin South Down MLA Councillor Willie Clarke has set out his party’s position over the provision of a new leisure centre for Donard Park in Newcastle. On his heels, SDLP Down District Councillor Carmel O’Boyle xa0has responded stating the SDLP position on a Newcastle Leisure Centre. These are the issues that will decide the winners and losers of the South Down Assembly and Down District Council elections.
The issues are complex, and they will certainly arise again in the next Down District Council chamber… with whoever is elected from across the district.

Alliance Call For Road Improvements At Tullybrannigan
th, is calling on the DRD Roads Service to address a number of poor road surface areas and pot holes in the Tullybrannigan area of Newcastle.
Mr. Clarke is seeking urgent remedial work to be carried out in particular on the Tullybrannigan Road and Shanslieve Drive. xa0He said, “Like many roads following the extreme winter conditions, pot holes and poor road surface areas are now appearing in the Tullybrannigan area, causing danger to motorists.
Residents living in Shanslieve Drive and Tullybrannigan Road have sent me a number of complaints about the pot holes and poor road surface areas which have now begun to become highly visible, and are causing motorists to avoid suddenly suddenly in order to prevent damage to their vehicles.”
“I am therefore calling on DRD Roads Service to carry out an inspection of both Shanslieve Drive and Tullybrannigan Road and to carry out urgent remedial works to remedy the situation.
“I have now made representations to DRD Roads Service and hope remedial repair work will be carried out very shortly, and I will continue to monitor the situation closely until the works are completed by DRD Roads Service.”]]>

ON Tuesday 5th April, xa0pupils from the De La Salle High School in Downpatrick visited xa0CoolFM headquarters in Newtownards.
The visit was ‘part 2’ of a NI Fire Service initiative to bring awareness ofxa0the problems our Fire Service encounter every day.xa0 The CoolFM ‘bus’ had rolled into the grounds at De La Salle a week previous to inform and educate the boys on the dangers Fire Fighters face daily. xa0This hi-tech bus provided an opportunity to make radio commercials, something students found very interesting.
On Monday the students were invited to meet with Pete Snodden who worked with them to produce their very ownxa0fire safety radio commercials, the best of which will be heard on CoolFM very soon!]]>
