Newry Variety Market Comes Alive with Local Tourism Providers and Family Fun with ‘Hidden Gems at Home’.

The ‘Hidden Gems at Home’ tourism showcase event on Sunday 23 March transformed Newry Variety Market into a vibrant hub of local culture and adventure.

Over 60 stalls filled the market, each highlighting the diverse tourism experiences available within the Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark.

Attendees explored a rich tapestry of offerings, including outdoor activity and adventures, cultural and heritage experiences, food and drink, golf and accommodation.

The event aimed to inspire residents to discover and appreciate the unique attractions in their own district.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne, attended the event and expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative.

He said: โ€˜The ‘Hidden Gems at Home’ event has truly showcased the unparalleled beauty and diversity of our region.

“It’s heartening to see so many local businesses come together to highlight the unique experiences that make Mourne Gullion Strangford Geopark a must-visit destination.

“From exhilarating outdoor activities to rich cultural heritage, fabulous golf, amazing accommodation and delectable local cuisine, our district offers something special for everyone.

“I now encourage all our residents to explore these businesses and support our local tourism industry.”

Attendees also enjoyed taster experiences, allowing them to sample various activities offered by local tourism businesses. A selection of food and drink stalls provided the finest local delicacies, ensuring a delightful experience for all ages.

Children and adults alike delighted in interactive experiences such as sand art, arts and crafts workshops, treasure hunts, live music, Irish dancing and engaging demonstrations by local tourism providers.

The success of the ‘Hidden Gems at Home’ event underscores the rich tourism potential within the region. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to continue exploring and supporting the local attractions that make this region truly unique.
