Spate of Newry Burgalries Sparks Police Appeal
Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a number of recent burglaries in the Newry area.
Sergeant Mackin said: “At approximately 5.55am on Monday, 17th June police received a report of a burglary in the Armagh Road area.
“The homeowner was woken by their dog barking and found the back door open and a quantity of cash and car keys missing.
“At approximately 6.10am, a report was received of an attempted burglary in the same area when a man, believed to be aged in his 20s, smashed the patio window of a house with a screwdriver.
“The man who was wearing a baseball cap, made off from the scene on a bicycle. A short time later, just before 7am, a third report was received that a man, also believed to be aged in his 20s, had gained entry to a house in the Daisy Hill Gardens area.xa0
“He then made off on a bicycle in the direction of Newry City Centre with a sum of cash and a set of car keys.
“He is described as wearing a black coat, black hat, black tracksuit bottoms and black and white trainers.
“A final report was received just before 7.45am this morning, Thursday 20th June, of a creeper style burglary in the Larchmont area.
“The homeowner found the front door of the house ajar. Car keys and a car were reported stolen – and there was also a discarded bicycle at the front of the property.
“Police are investigating a possible link between the four reports and are appealing to anyone who noticed anyone suspicious in the area or to anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries to contact police on 101 quoting reference 263 20/06/24.”
