Nominations Open for Newry Mourne and Down Sports Awards 2023

Newry Mourne and Down District Council in association with the Sports Association Newry, Down and South Armagh (SANDSA) have launched their latest sports awards.

Recognising the extraordinary achievements of clubs and athletes across the district in 2023, nominations are now open for the NMD Sports Awards in association with SANDSA, which will be held in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle on Friday, March 15.

Fundamental to these sporting successes is the huge contribution made by coaches, volunteers, mentors, teachers and parents, and the awards will pay tribute to those helping make the Newry Mourne and Down District Council area an active and healthy district.

Competition is expected to be strong for the 10 awards and nomination categories which are as follows:

  • Junior Club Team of the Year 2023
  • Senior Club Team of the Year 2023
  • Sportsperson/Team of the Year with a Disability 2023
  • Young Sport Volunteer of the Year 2023
  • Senior Sport Volunteer of the Year 2023
  • Young Club Coach of the Year 2023
  • Senior Club Coach of the year 2023
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year 2023
  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year 2023
  • Lifetime Services to Sport

Speaking at the awards launch, Newry Mourne and Down District Council Deputy Chairperson, Cllr Gareth Sharvin, said: “The Council is delighted to host these awards in recognition of the exceptional work that our local clubs and societies do across the district from grass roots through to high performance level.xa0

On Friday March 15, 2024, the NMD Sports Awards 2023 will celebrate individuals and teams who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in our district in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle.

The prestigious awards are open to nominations from all sports clubs, local organisations or sports fans within our district. Forms are available from:
