Newcastle Bowlers Go On Study Tour

th October 2017 a group of bowlers from Newcastle’s ladies’ and men’s teams arranged a short study tour to three bowling clubs in Kilkeel, Rathfriland and Banbridge. “As Chair of Down District Council’s Leisure Facilities Working Group, it is important that I know what standard of provision we need to be aiming for when we design new bowling facilities for our local bowling club members. I found the visits very useful and what I learned on this trip will inform the support I will continue to give to our bowlers. “As we move steadily forward in our council towards the provision of a new and long overdue leisure centre, the needs of our bowlers will be at the top of the list, as far as I am concerned. We will continue to work closely together to ensure that this sport is given the recognition and facilities it deserves. “While we have an ever-growing elderly population, bowls is a sport that has an increasing number of younger members, and the facilities we provide must reflect the sport’s popularity.”]]>
