New Guide To 'Thinking Rural' Launched

Thinking Rural – the essential guide to Rural Proofing” will assess the possible impacts of government policies on rural areas and those who live and work there. Launching the revised guidance Minister Gildernew said,xa0“Put at its simplest, Rural Proofing is the process by which government demonstrates that rural communities have been fully considered when policies are being developed. This guide will be invaluable to civil servants, helping them identify early on the possible rural impacts of policies and ensure that government actions will have fairer and more equitable outcomes for rural communities who make up around 40% of the population in the north of Ireland.” The guidance, which is available on the DARD website, is being supported by training to nearly 1000 civil servants from across government departments. This will provide them with a clearer understanding of the unique characteristics of rural areas and how to better tailor policies to meet their needs.
