Police officers and the coordinators of existing Neighbourhood Watch schemes in the area will be among the speakers at the ‘Public Forum’ being organised by Ards District Policing Partnership (DPP) in Comber Leisure Centre. Neighbourhood Watch is a partnership between local communities, Police, Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) and District Policing u2028Partnerships (DPPs) and aims to help people protect themselves and their property, and to reduce the fear of crime. The schemes can make a real difference to people’s lives and can help people feel safer in their homes, as Chairman of the DPP, Alderman Robert Gibson said. He added,u2028“Participation in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme simply means that local people are observant, look out for each other and report suspicious or unusual activity, which helps the police detect crime and offenders. However, the mere existence of the scheme in an area with its high visibility promotional material deters criminal and anti-social activity and as a result, local people feel safer in their own homes and streets. “This meeting will explain how the scheme works and how to become involved and I would encourage local people to take the opportunity to attend and find out more”. u2028Anyone can belong to a Neighbourhood Watch scheme and play a part in its achievements and a scheme can cover just one street, or part or all of an estate or residential area. u2028The Neighbourhood Watch meeting takes place on Tuesday 4th October in Comber Leisure Centre, at 2.00pm. Anyone who would like to know more about the work of the DPP or to attend future public events should contact Alan McCay, Ards xa0District Policing Partnership Manager: Tel: 028 9182 4070.]]>
