Nationwide To Stay On High Streets Until 2030

Shannon Welcomes Nationwide commitment to retain High Street locations until 2030

Strangford MP Jim Shannon MP has welcomed the commitment by Nationwide Building Society to retain the banking locations in the High Street locations until 2030.

Strangford MP Jim Shannon is delighted that Nationwide with maintain its High Street banks in Newtownards and Bangor until 2030.

Jim Shannon MP has said: “At a time when it seems that banks are looking to close branches wherever possible and force the online banking, it is so refreshing to see the commitment of Nationwide Building Society to retaining their presence on the High Street.

“Nationwide’s decision to continue to keep every one of its 696 Nationwide and Virgin Money branches open is very welcome until at least 2030 – this includes both the Ards and Bangor branches.

“It is little wonder that Nationwide branches remain popular, with 11% increase in customers using them over the last year and this is due to their strong presence in the community which enables over a third of current accounts and over a fifth of savings accounts to be opened in branch.

“Whilst the online approach is incredible – the High Street presence is essential and the security of knowing that branch will be in place will I believe encourage more people to bank with Nationwide.

“Well done Nationwide for putting your customers needs first!”
