Sinn Féin Newry and Mourne Councillor Mick Murphy has said that new mountain-bike trails in South Down will be a great opportunity for small business and investment in the area. Mr. Murphy was speaking following a trip to North Wales to examine the positive impact that mountain-bike trails have had in that area.
He said: “During my visit we observed the excellent trails that North Wales had to offer, and the economic benefits which this type of tourism has brought to the area. We were shown accommodation set up to deal with the influx of tourism and told how that has been so successful financially.
“Towns such as Rostrevor in South Down have an exciting opportunity with the development of the village as a Mecca for recreational tourism. The success in North Wales is a good example of how much inward investment this type of project can bring and I look forward to seeing small business’ in the Rostrevor area thrive as a result.”
