Police Formally Release Name Of Murdered Downpatrick Man and Subsequently Chare Another Man With His Murder
Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Downpatrick at the weekend have named the deceased as Stephen Brannigan.
Mr Brannigan, who was 56 years old, was found dead at an address in the Marian Park area of the town on Sunday, 10 August.

Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Brannigan’s family and loved ones at this extremely distressing time.”
She added: “A murder investigation is underway, and I would reiterate our appeal for anyone with information to please come forward and speak to our detectives on 101.”

MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER TO APPEAR IN NEWTOWNARDS COURT
Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of Stephen Brannigan and the serious assault of a priest in Downpatrick on Sunday 10th August, have charged a man to court.
The man, aged 30, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
He is due to appear before Newtownards Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Wednesday 13th August.
As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
