Molloy’s Chip Shop Burned In Arson Attack In Downpatrick

Following the superb St Patrick’s day celebrations in Downpatrick, emergency services were called out at just after 4am this morning (Tuesday 17th March 20025) to attend a fire at Molloy’s Chip Shop on St Patrick’s Avenue in Downpatrick which police say was a deliberate arson.

The scene at 9am this morning in St Patrick’s Avenue as people in Downpatrick were driving to work and taking children to school.

Police are appealing for information following the report of arson and criminal damage at the commercial premises located at the top of St. Patrick’s Avenue in Downpatrick.

The car was reversed onto the front of the building and set alight.

Sergeant Smyth said: “Shortly after 4:05am, it was reported to police that a car had been set alight at a chip shop in the area at the top of St Patrick Avenue.

No damage was reported to the inside of the premises, but the outside shutters and shop sign were damaged following the incident.

The saloon car which was set alight causing damage to the front of Molloy’s Chip Shop,

“Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service extinguished the fire, which is being treated as deliberate ignition.

“Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage taken at the time, to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 241 18/03/25.
