NI Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has congratulated Rory McIlroy on a splendid victory in the Dubai Desert Classic, the most significant golf tournament to date this season.
The Holywood man, who finished on an amazing 22 under par, had three shots to spare over Sweden’s Alex Noren, with Portrush golfer Graeme McDowell also putting in an admirable performance to finish in eighth place.
Minister Ní Chuilín said: “Both Rory and Graeme have shown some great early season form and I wish them and all our golfers the best of luck for the remainder of the year. Rory is to be commended on winning this prestigious tournament and Graeme will no doubt also be very pleased to have secured a top ten finish.
“Rory, after his second place finish last weekend, will be buoyed by this latest success and it will instil him with confidence as he aims to complete the ‘career grand slam’ when the US Masters tees off in April.”
