The first meeting of Killyleagh & District Branch of the NI Family History Society for the season coming on Monday 7th September 2026
The Killyleagh branch of The North of Ireland Family History Society, will be holding the first monthly meeting of the season on the evening of Monday 7th September from 7.30pm at their usual venue, Killyleagh Masonic Hall, 50 High Street, Killyleagh, BT30 9QF.
Secretary Ken Tait said: “Our meeting starts at 7.30pm, and our guest speaker for this session will be Jill Gordon from Wave Trauma Centre, accompanied by a colleague from Adopt NI.
“Their talk will include relevant local historical background, and will focus on their work in support to individuals who resided, were born in, or are descendants of those affected by the Mother & Baby institutions, Magdalene Laundries and workhouses, in the period 1922-1990.
“There will be time for conversation and refreshments following the presentation.
“This is perhaps a slight but necessary departure from our usual talks focussing on local people and places, but cannot be separated as it also impacts on people and places of the area, and the work of the two agencies provides a valuable support service deserving our awareness.
“Members and visitors are welcome to join the meeting free, however, a donation to cover cost of refreshments etc would be gratefully accepted.”
