Rathfriland road works gets thumbs up from Alliance, but…
South Down Alliance MLA Andrew McMurray has welcomed news that the Department for Infrastructure is planning to undertake a resurfacing scheme on Newry Street, Rathfriland.
However, he has expressed disappointment that road defects on Downpatrick Street will not be addressed in the near future.

The South Down MLA said: “Local constituents in Rathfriland raised the state of the town’s roads with me and I wrote to the Minister for Infrastructure about defects in Newry Street and Downpatrick Street.
“I was pleased to learn that the Department of Infrastructure plans to undertake a resurfacing scheme on Newry Street once public realm works by the Council, which are expected to start later this year, are complete.
“In the meantime, the Department plans to carry out large scale patching on Newry Street this summer.
“Newry Street is in an appalling state, so this is very good news for Rathfriland.
“Unfortunately, the Minister also advised that resurfacing Downpatrick Street would not be on the cards anytime soon, since other roads are currently considered to be in greater need.
