McKevitt Urges Farmers To Check Farm Safety For Children

South Down MLA Karen McKevitt (SDLP)xa0has urged farmers to take advantage of Child Safety on Farms Week by ensuring that premises are secure and pose minimal risks to children and young people.

dn_screenMrs McKevitt MLA said: “Next week is Child Safety on Farms week and it’s important that local farmers take the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the latest advice and tips on how to reduce risk of injury to children and young people.

“I want to pay tribute to the Health and Safety Executive for organising this important initiative. Our rural towns and communities form the powerhouse of the economy of the North but it’s important that we take every opportunity to improve conditions, increase safety and avoid tragedy. “I would encourage all local farmers to consult the HSE ‘How safe is your farm’ checklist and ensure that they’re doing all they can to create a safe environment. If anyone would like further information they should feel free to contact my office and we’ll be glad to assist,” xa0added Mrs McKevitt.]]>
