McGrath Welcomes Warrenpoint Online Reporting Form

DAERA Minister To Open Online Reporting Form For Environmental Issues

The SDLP’s Colin McGrath MLA has welcomed confirmation from the Agriculture Minister Andrew Muir MLA that an online reporting form for environmental issues is to be established.

Commenting, the South Down MLA has said: “I have become more and more concerned over the operation of the NIEA in recent times, and their lack of oversight around waste management issues.

“These continue to be an issue of concern for me and the people of South Down, particularly in Warrenpoint.

South Down SDLP MLA Colin McGrath has welcomed DAERA Minister Muir’s efforts to establishing an environmental reporting form system following the serious concerns by residents in Warrenpoint.

“Following on from a series of meetings with local residents, community groups and my adjournment debate in the Assembly, I recently wrote to the Minister requesting that an online reporting form be established for people who want to raise environmental concerns with the NIEA.

“This would be akin to the form that is utilised by the Department for Infrastructure in reporting road faults or broken street lights etc.

“I welcome the response from the Minister who has agreed to carry out this work, as part of a new Incident Management System which he is developing.

“This will ensure that the concerns people have are raised with the people who have responsibility for the regulation of such matters as quickly as possible.”

Colin McGrath added: “This is welcome news, and one which will benefit everyone across the North, and now we need the Minister to provide the necessary clarity on when people can expect to see this online form in place and ready to be utilised.

“I will continue to make the case for this to the Minister and his officials.”
