Colin McGrath MLA said: “People in Ballynahinch, Newcastle and our surrounding communities have waited for far too long for progress on this bypass.

“But now with SDLP Minister Mallon leading from the front in the Department for Infrastructure, we’ve got the go-ahead for progress on the Ballynahinch bypass, one of the biggest ever road schemes to benefit people here.

“Not only will it alleviate congestion in Ballynahinch, it will open up South Down, making our roads safer and our communities more accessible.xa0

“The SDLP said that we would go into government to transform our communities and improve the lives of everyone living here. This announcement is proof of our commitment to South Down after years of failure from others. I’m looking forward to working with the Minister to deliver more for people here.”
