Mathison Welcomes Fairways Accessibility Improvement

Mathison welcomes completion of accessibility improvements in Strangford

Alliance Strangford MLA Nick Mathison has welcomed the completion of accessibility improvements in the Fairways area of Strangford, following concerns raised by local residents.

Mr. Mathison was contacted by residents who highlighted difficulties faced by wheelchair users, others with limited mobility and carers pushing prams, due to inadequate dropped kerbs and pedestrian access.

Strangford Alliance MLA Nick Mathison has managed to get improvements to the pathways in the Fairways in Strangford.

Following contact from Mr. Mathison, and an assessment of the area, the Department for Infrastructure committed to carrying out improvements, which have now been completed.

Nick Mathison MLA said: โ€œI’m really pleased to see these improvements completed following concerns raised by local residents.

โ€œEveryone should be able to move around their local community safely and independently, and relatively small improvements to pavements and dropped kerbs can make a big difference.

โ€œAccessible streets and footpaths are essential, particularly for wheelchair users, people with limited mobility and carers with prams. I’m grateful to the residents who brought this to my attention and to the Department for carrying out the work.

โ€œThis is a positive outcome for the local community and a good example of how raising concerns can lead to practical improvements.โ€
