Mathison Praises Little Doves Childcare In Westwinds

Nick Mathison MLA Visits Little Doves Childcare Centre In Ards Westwind Estate

Alliance MLA for Strangford Nick Mathison has praised the work of Little Doves Childcare Centre in the Westwinds Estate, Newtownards, following a visit to the setting last week.

Mr Mathison, who is one of the Party’s Education spokespersons, highlighted the fantastic work the setting is doing in the Westwinds and the Early Years provision that is on offer.

He said: “Little Doves is another brilliant example of quality Early Years provision in the Strangford constituency, which is delivered in the heart of the community.

“The importance of Early Years cannot be understated and it is clear that the staff at Little Doves are fully committed to delivering the best provision possible to our youngest learners.’

“The setting offers both funded pre-school placements and paid for pre-pre sessions, with Rosemary and the team delivering engaging and stimulating provision for all.

‘”Non-statutory pre-school settings provide wonderful early learning opportunities, often in incredibly challenging financial circumstances.

“It is my understanding that the Education Minister has asked the Education Authority to carry out a review to address the need for a fairxa0balance between funded provision in statutory and non-statutory pre-school settings.

“I would urge the Minister to progress this work as quickly as possible so that non-statutory settings, such as Little Doves, get the financial support they need in order to continue providing such a high standard of early education and learning.’

“Little Doves works tirelessly to support their pupils and we must ensure that they are adequately funded and supported to provide this provision,” added Nick Mathison.
