Cathy Mason MLA has said that the Minister of Education’s school uniform guidelines are a ‘sham’
South Down MLA Cathy Mason has commented on the new guidance issued to schools on uniform costs by the DUP Education Minister Paul Givan.
She maintained that School uniform guidelines are ‘an’other attempt to pull the wool over parents’ eyes and has described new advice on school uniform prices as a ‘sham’.
The South Down MLA made the comments after new guidance was issued to schools on uniform costs by the DUP Education Minister.

“These guidelines are a sham and another attempt by this minister to pull the wool over parents’ eyes,” said Ms. Mason.
“Sinn Féin worked with other parties to put forward practical proposals that would have reduced the cost of school uniforms and guaranteed equality.
“These included capping the number of branded items, allowing parents to buy affordable generic alternatives and including the right for girls to wear trousers if they wish.
“What we now have is weak legislation that will leave families still paying far too much for uniforms and PE gear.
“The DUP has squandered the opportunity to cut uniform costs and keep money in the pockets of struggling parents.
“The Education Minister is continually failing our children on a number of fronts.”
