Marie Gallagher From Downe Travel Receives Top Honour

Downe Travel founder is inducted into Northern Ireland Travel & Tourism Industry Roll of Honour

Marie Gallagher was inducted into the Northern Ireland Travel & Tourism Industry Roll of Honour at the 34th Northern Ireland Travel & Tourism Awards 2026, which took place at the glistening Slieve Donard Hotel.

A familiar face in the Northern Ireland travel industry, Marie Gallagher established Downe Travel back in 1991, which marked 35 years of business earlier this year.

Recognised for its personal approach, dedicated staff, and professional service tailored to customers’ needs, Downe Travel has been bestowed with many awards over the years including Northern Ireland Travel Agent of the Year in 2017 and 2023, and named TTG Top Agency in Northern Ireland on five occasions.

Now under the direction of her son, Paul Gallagher, Downe Travel continues to go from strength to strength, built on the strong foundation which Marie established in 1991.

An invaluable contributor to the original Consort Travel Group, which is now under the Advantage Travel banner, Marie is an esteemed addition to Northern Ireland Travel & Tourism Industry Roll of Honour.

Speaking on her induction, Marie said: “it was a real honour to be inducted into the Travel & Tourism Industry Roll of Honour this year, making it an extra special occasion as Downe Travel celebrates 35 years in business.

“It’s been a fantastic journey so far, and I’m proud to be part of an industry I’m passionate about. Here’s to the next chapter for Downe Travel!”
