Man Sentenced In Newry For Sex And Drug Offences

Jail sentence for sex offender who attempted rape supplied drugs

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has acknowledged the sentence handed down to 33-year old Denvior Larkin from Newry on Thursday 15th May at Newry Crown Court,xa0for sexual offences including attempted rape.

He was also sentenced at the same time for unrelated drug offences including being concerned in the supply of a Class A controlled drug and possession of Class A with intent to supply.



Larkin was sentenced to four years, to spend two in custody and two on licence. He will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and be subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for five years.

Detective Inspector Moffett said: “If someone is heavily intoxicated or sleeping, they cannot consent to sexual activity. Make no mistake: this is rape. We take reports of this nature incredibly seriously.

“If you have been the victim of a sexual crime, it is never your fault and you have nothing to feel ashamed about, we will work hard for justice for you. Please report to us and we will take action and support you.”

The victim has released an anonymous statement today saying: “I am proud of myself for fighting my way to justice. After over two years I have been vindicated and my full version of events and claims have been accepted to be true by my attacker. I hope more victims will come forward knowing justice is possible. It is not our shame to carry. My life has been on hold and I can now begin to look forward.”
