Man Arrested Following Alleged Sex Attack At Downpatrick Bus Station

dn_screenA 23-year old man was arrested in connection with a report of a sexual assault that occurred at a bus station in the Market Street area of Downpatrick on the afternoon of Wednesday 3 August.

It was reported that a woman, aged in her twenties, was sexually assaulted. The man was arrested a short time later and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Chief Inspector Gillian West said: “This incident occurred in a public place at a busy time of the day, therefore, I would ask anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to contact Downpatrick Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 543 of 03/08/16.

“It is believed that this is an isolated incident, however, as a reassurance to the local community there will be an increase in police patrols in the local area.”
