Newry Independent Councillor Gavin Malone has supported a group of local activists and residents who cleaned up their community area in Newry.

Local Newry Independent community activists took part in a community clean up recently from Mourne Country right along Damolly, Belfast Rd, Ashgrove Rd, Ashgrove Park and the land surrounding Castleowen.

Speaking on the clean up, Newry Mourne and Down District Council Councillor Gavin Malone said: “It is great to see so many people come out to help clean up their area. It is essential that we work together to clean up our communities and bring local people together.

“I have asked council to collect any bags of rubbish following the clean up and any other clean-ups we have planned moving forward.”

Local community activist Jordan Poucher added: “I am absolutely delighted to see people from the local area come out and help us with this clean up.

“We have other clean ups planned for the next few weeks and I encourage anybody from any area is welcome at any clean up. Everyone is very welcome.

“Keep an eye on the Councillor Gavin Malone Facebook page for any plans we have.

“It is important that we work together to keep our communities and environment clean.”
