The school group collected 4,440 prizes at their Christmas Fair in Portishead, UK on December 2nd 2006 to win the title. Ciara is appealing to the community and local businesses to donate whatever they can to what they hope will be a record-breaking raffle. She said, “We are almost half-way towards meeting the target at this stage and we are looking for brand new items which cost £1 or more for the tombola. “The excitement is building and I really think we will do it on the day! Everyone’s a winner – all you have to do is buy a ticket priced £1 to enter.” So far, the Co Down charity – which provides care and support for people with learning difficulties – has collected the latest DVDs and CDs, designer perfume and make-up, jewellery, paintings and vouchers for high street fashion stores. Down Leisure Centre, which is one of the designated drop-off areas for donations, has very kindly donated 100 complimentary vouchers for a swim, steam or sauna. Other designated drop-off areas for donations are Ballynahinch Leisure Centre; Dan Rice Memorial Hall, Ballynahinch; Bridge Centre, Killyleagh; Ballymote Sports and Wellbeing Centre, Downpatrick and Newcastle Leisure Centre. Down District Council Chairman Councillor Liam Johnston has also requested that the business community help the charity reach their tombola target. “I wish Mainstay DRP all the best of luck for their record breaking attempt in Castlewellan on August 28th and I would ask all businesses within the district to donate to this very worthwhile cause.” Besides trying your luck at the Tombola, the finest artisan food and drink will be on offer at the 4Rs in The Park’s tented village area ‘The Spirit of Down.’ As part of the TasteFest and CraftFest extravaganza, there will be a delicious array of fine foods on display for visitors to sample. Animal lovers are in for a real treat with Horse & Hound Show while on the lake, The Raiders Challenge will take place as teams of up to ten Vikings take part in the longboat rowing challenge. Simon Fisher of Asda in Downpatrick said, “We are delighted to be supporting 4 R’s in The Park which looks to be a major event in the County Down calendar this year with a host of activities on offer. At Asda, families are at the heart of what we do so we’re pleased to be sponsoring what is set to be a fun filled family day out.” *4Rs in The Park is sponsored by Asda, First Trust Bank and Down District Council.]]>
