Downpatrick Sinn Féin Councillor Éamonn Mac Con Midhe has welcomed road improvements that have been carried out on the Vianstown Road which he says will make the area a lot safer for all users.

Councillor Mac Con Midhe added: “New footpaths and the resurfacing of the Vianstown Road will go a long way in making this road safer for the increasing numbers of drivers and pedestrians that now use it. I would like to thank the Roads Service for carrying out the work and will continue to liaise with them in the future on matters like this.”

He also expressed his concern at the lack of communication between the contractor and local residents.

“Whilst this sort of work is essential, it is imperative that contractors communicate as much as possible with local residents to ensure as little disruption as possible to their daily lives. In this instance a lack of communication led to residents having difficulty accessing their drive ways and getting their cars out,” added Councillor Mac Con Midhe.
