Líofa Exceeds Expectations

Líofa has proven to be a huge success.

Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the news that Liofa, the initiative to promote the use of the Irish language has more than doubled its initial targets so far.

Ms. Ruane said: “In a question to the Minister it has been confirmed that over two and a half times the number of people have signed up as what was initially targeted.

“This is great news for the revival of the Irish language and highlights the growing numbers right across society who are learning the language.

“The language is a deep part of our culture and Liofa has stimulated peoples imagination into learning and speaking the language.

“I would call on people to continue to sign up through the DCAL website and become more efficient in the use of Irish even if it is only a few words by beginning a class.

“Not only will they enjoy learning their native language but they will make new friends and have a lot of fun on the way.”
