Slieve Croob DUP councillor Alan Lewis has called for an end of dog fouling at the Old Road pitches in Dundrum
The scourge of dog poo has been running issue across the Newry Mourne and Down District and more needs to be done to encourage dog owners to clean up after their dogs.
Cllr Lewis said: “Dog fouling at the Dundrum Old Road pitches has unfortunately got out of control.

“I’ve received a growing number of complaints from people using the area, with many saying the problem has become noticeably worse in recent weeks.
“This is a well-used recreational area for walkers, families and sports clubs. The pitches are used regularly for football, and it’s completely unfair that players, particularly children, should have to contend with dog mess.
If you’re walking your dog, please be responsible and clean up after it.
“Dog fouling is not only unpleasant, it’s a disgusting discourtesy to your neighbours and everyone else who uses the facilities.
“I’ve asked the Council to keep an eye on the area.
“Nobody wants to see fines being issued, but if a small minority continue to ignore their responsibilities, enforcement may become necessary.
“I’ve also asked the Council to consider installing additional dog waste bins at this location to make it easier for responsible owners to dispose of waste properly.
“Please do the right thing… bag it and bin it.”
