Letter from Seán Rogers MLA : Undocumented Irish in US

Re: Undocumented Irish

Just over a week ago the US Senate endorsed sweeping immigration legislation which has the potential to transform the quality of life for the many Undocumented Irish in America.

US Senator’s adopted a bi-partisan approach to resolving this longstanding issue and this is particularly welcome on an issue which has divided opinion across America for so long.

Throughout this Island many families have seen their loved ones leave for the promise of a new and exciting life In America.  This legislation will afford greater rights to the Undocumented Irish if it passes through Congress.

The final hurdle for the legislation is when it comes before the House of Representatives. I would encourage anybody with relatives or friends in America to ask them to write to/email their local Congressman/woman and encourage them to pass this important legislation.

Comprehensive reform of the Immigration system is close at hand and has the ability to improve the life of our loved ones on the other side of the Atlantic. They can see their rights strengthened through root and branch reform of the immigration system.

Yours,

Seán Rogers, South Down MLA (SDLP).
