Kimmins holds introductory meeting with NI Water
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has said she looks forward to working in collaboration with NI Water to address the challenges facing waste-water infrastructure.
Speaking following an introductory meeting with NI Water Chairpersonxa0Jo Aston and NI Water Chief Executivexa0Dr Sara Venning,xa0Minister Kimmins said:xa0“The issues facing our ageing waste-water infrastructure are well documented and I have made it clear that I want to work collaboratively with NI Water to address those challenges.xa0xa0

“I am committed to ensuring that we collectively use the available budget to maximum effect.
“I will work with Executive colleagues toxa0make the case for further investment for NI Water.
“also, I am looking at new ways of working and I am bringing forward new legislation in relation to sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), which will help to store stormwater so that it releases slower into the wastewater network.
“My officials are examining the legislative change required to bring forward developer contributions with a view to consulting on the proposals in March 2025.
“It is important that we work together to introduce improvements to our wastewater infrastructure to facilitate housing growth, economic development and improve water quality.”xa0xa0
