Kilmore Rec still topping Division 1A despite losing a point to Larne Tech

Kilmore welcomed Larne Tech to Robert Adams Park and were looking to continue their recent run of good form but despite their best efforts the game finished all square in a 0-0 draw writes Cyril McKinney.
League leaders Kilmore Rec were hosting Larne Tech who are mid-table at the moment so the advantage was certainly with the home side.
Right from the first whistle Kilmore enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and scoring chances but as the game progressed it became a frustrating afternoon in front of goal for Kilmore.
Whether is was the after affects of the Christmas turkey and pudding and copious libations, despite playing some good passing football, Kilmore lacked the cutting edge to grab a winning goal in the final third of the match.
Over-hit and misplaced passes along with last ditch defending from a committed Larne rearguard and goal-bound shots deflecting off defenders, Kilmore just could not find the back of the net and both sides had to settle for a draw.
For Kilmore it was a good dominant performance in all areas of the park with the defence restricting the Larne attack to rare sights on goal. At least they have got this game behind them now and it will be down to business for the rest oof the season as they hope to see promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
Kilmore Rec soccer is bursting with junior and youth teams and in a couple of years will have a solid base of players.
And with the opening of their 3G pitch at the start of the 2025 season, Kilmore Rec are well positioned to grow as a club.
At the moment they have played 17 league matches and are top of the table clear on 38 points, so now they will be getting down to business with their eye on achieving the top spot and getting back into the Premier Division.
But it’s not in the bag yet. Dark horses Willowbank who have been galloping through the leagues are lurking lower in the table with just 9 games played and could surge up the table in the closing sections on the season to contend.
And that head-to-head league confrontation could be well worth attending as all the stops will be pulled out on this occasion by both sides. Willowbank are in fifth position in the league and are sitting on 22 points.
