Strangford DUP MP Jim Shannon has welcomed the investment of £78,000 for the new Playground at Killyleagh Community Centre.

He said: “This is long overdue investment in Killyleagh is down to the hard work of local Councillor William Walker and I thank him for his commitment and dedication in seeing this through. Killyleagh has been long seeking an upgrade of the playpark that has always been much used. The funding was a package from the Council and the Rural Development Fund under the play strategy.

“The old playpark in Killyleagh was deemed to be in urgent need of repair. There were others too that were enhanced and upgraded across the wider  Council area.

“The Bridge Community Centre is one of the most used in the Newry Mourne and Down District Council area and this substantial investment means that Killyleagh children at last will have a modern playpark and that can’t come soon enough.”

DUP Rowallene Councillor Billy Walker added: “As a local Rowallene councillor who has lobbied in Council for the upgrade of this park over the last 18 months, I welcome the fact that Newry Mourne and Down District Council are now working on site at the the Killyleagh playpark, and I pay tribute to Council for providing the £78,000 needed for the upgrade.

“I am looking forward to its completion in the next few weeks. Jim Shannon MP agreed that the old park was well past its sell buy date and the new park is long overdue. I hope the children of Killyleagh enjoy this new facility in the months and years to come.”
